Verified Purchase. It is difficult to come to a decent conclusion about this movie. As a yarn, not too bad, but really would be aimed at teenage boys for an audience, provided they are not fearful of spiders.
And there certainly are plenty of spiders, and actually done quite well. And throw in fires and explosions, plus dust, and this will have an audience.
But for a more discerning audience, less of an appeal and more of an endurance. It is supposed to take place in the Gobi desert region of China, and naturally one of the characters tries to get a cell phone signal after they have driven far into the remote mountains.
And the spiders chitter. Some may be prone to watch the movie due to Kelsey Grammar, who plays Mason, who is on a mission with a secret. Plays a decent role of a less than honorable person.
His son is in an underground cavern, and at risk. They wind up in an underground series of chambers, and how they get through each one is interesting as it involves solving some puzzles.
It is not a bad movie, just not a real gripping tale. Decent special effects. This movie only made about six million dollars at the box office. Do not pay to watch this thing.
This is a kind review, since I like Kelsey Grammar. Overall, this movie is equivalent to a SyFy movie, but with a bigger budget, but worse story line.
The special effects are actually decent, but it can't save the poor story. Total nonsense from beginning to end, with zero logic and purposely poor choices being made.
The problem is that SyFy movies poke fun at themselves for being campy, however, I don't believe the writers or directors thought this was a serious movie.
Movie does drag on for quite a bit, and the ending meets up to typical Western standards of happy ending not Asian standards where through sacrafice, everyone dies, but at least it was for a cause.
Long-story short, it's prob not worth your time, unless there's a specific actor or actress you like in the movie so you can say you actually saw them in this movie.

If you are arachnid phobic, you should not watch this because they not only spin webs around people, they also crawl out of the mouths of people.
There is a giant queen spider who controls all the other spiders. My favorite part of the movie was when she died. Very good acting.
Very good back story. Lots and lots of visual effects. Really good CGI. I really wanted to like 7 Guardians and while the premise is fine for an action movie the script failed the actors.
There wasn't enough character development to actually like any of the characters, there wasn't enough interaction and conflict between them to create interesting drama.
I kept on waiting for the film to take off but instead of soaring through the air, it just kind of glided to the finish.
Recommended for serious fans of Chinese action films only. Better than expected. Expected a B-rate movie and probably is but actually was very good.
